But can't remove it. We tried to follow the path to remove it manually but
the path doesn't exist. The path is C:\Documents and settings\local
service\start menu\programs\startup\start.exe and many more for
Secret-Crush.

BUT the paths don't exist... there is no LOCAL SERVICE in Docs and
Settings!!!! None of the paths to it exist!!!! How do you get rid of
something you can't find. SEARCH does not find it either!

It's a hidden folder. Make sure you're set to see hidden & system files and
it will appear.

G'Day F.S.,
To help you some more to find the hidden files, go to Start/ Control Panel/
Folder Options, View/
Place a dot in the button, for displaying hidden files.
Follow it down in the folder tree root starting from C drive etc
Rob.

My PC is set to SHOW hidden folders/files, also all file extensions. We
cannot find Secret-Crush. Find (all files and folders) cannot locate it
either. How are these hidden things located?

Rob, we did that and it's NOT THERE! All files and folders *do show* -
that's how my PC is set-up. We try to follow the tree root, reach the end
and there's no Secret-Crush to be found. It always end's at \start.exe but
there is NO start.exe at the end of the root. How are these worms or
scumware found and removed when you can't SEE them in the folders???

Do you also have the "Hide protected Operating System Files" Unchecked?

They all show! There are LOADS of them! The biggest problem is the folders
Spybot says they're in do not exist - FIND can't locate them either.
Examples: There is no Start Menu under NetworkService under Doc & Settings.
There is no start.exe under NetworkService\Desktop\\ because there is no
Desktop file there. Although we found a Start Menu there was no
//start.exe in it, etc. We're cocketed looking for these files and
folders......

Clicking on tools/internet options/Programs and resetting the "web settings"
seems to have disabled Secret-Crush. But we can't FIND the *&^%$#@ files to
delete them!

Hi Free Spirit,
Sorry that track did not work out for you.
Where you say 'local service', sure it doesn't say 'local settings'?
Another plan may be to use some freeware called 'RegCleaner', to remove it
from the start menu directly, with a single tick & go approach. This a
powerful tool, and should be used with caution, although it does make back
up's of what it removes, but be cautious, and if in doubt , don't.
As freeware, it can be found at various sites; one I found is at
www.worldstart.com, called regcleaner.exe. that I use myself.
At the left hand side of the page, click on 'software store/download
archive/may2002'
www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/ archives/reg-cleaner4.3.htm
Make sure you save it first, and scan it with Antivirus, and spybot first,
can't be too careful.F.S.

OK, I went and got it. We use Regclean on the other PCs. I didn't know
you could also use it with XP. :-) You may wonder why I don't have
friends help me. First,.... I live in the middle of nowhere. I only have
a few friends. Most of them either don't even have a PC, or they still
have W98.

Thanks..... I'll run Regclean.

No, RegCleaner is not the same as RegClean. Regclean shouldn't be used with
XP and RegCleaner is a tool that you shouldn't use until you have more
experience. You can mess up your computer pretty good with RegCleaner
if you don't use it properly.

Whoops! OK..... I downloaded RegCleaner but I didn't install it. It's
sitting on my desktop.
