I keep getting a "warning" message that says "spyware"
has been detected on my computer. According to this
message, my internet activities are being tracked and
broadcast - tracked by whom, and broadcast to whom, I
have no clue. The warning message prompts me to "click
here" to fix the problem. I have thus far not done so,
thinking it was a trick to allow someone access to my
computer by pretending to "help" with a problem.
Simulataneously, I am being flooded at any given time by
pop-ups that are pertaining to my interests. Example: I
have been doing research on University sites. I start
getting pop-ups to attend particular schools. I am a
Civil War buff, and visit civil war sites. I start
getting civil war pop ups on my computer. The point
being, this seems to indicate that this "spyware" is
indeed active on my computer. How do I detect and
eliminate it? Does anyone have any experience with this?
I don't know where it came from, and it is creepy to
think I am being followed all over the net by a tracking
device that broadcasts my usage. Any insight would be
appreciated. No pun intended, but this is beginning to
really "bug" me.
