Not a templete.....or I think not. How would I have mistakenly made it
one? And how can I change it back?

Is it a .xls, workbook or a .xlt, template, file?

If you hit Window, do you by any chance see File:1 and File:2 in there at the
bottom. If so then just click on File:2, then close it using the X button for
the window, which is BELOW the main X button that will close Excel. Now save
the remaining file. This happnes if you do Window / New Window and then save
the file. It allows you to have two copies of your file open which you can then
tile using Window / Arrange and compare two sheets in the same book.

No there is only the file listed with "name:1" ....but if you go t
'open file' it only shows "name".

But by your explaination I think I see what caused this.... what I di
was hit new window a while back.....closed the original and then kep
the file with :1. So it looks like now I cannot get ride of this file

In addition if I go to open file..... if will open but not withou
first looking in Windows to find it. Strange.

Any ideas to get rid of :1?

Go to the Window menu and choose Unhide to ensure that you don't
have the second window hidden.
