Spreadsheet capable of storing images in cells

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for a spreadsheet (type) application capable of storing images
in some of the cells. Probably best if I explain what I wan to do.
I have a small store and take in stock from a number of suppliers.
Currently I store the item details in a spreadsheet (one row per item), and
can use the spreadsheet functions to automatically calculate stock
value/mark-up/quantities etc. etc. I use unique reference numbers to
identify the exact product item - but I would like to insert thumbnail
images of the items in the first column so that I could see at a glance
which item the detail referred to. I can insert images in Excel, but it's a
bit of a faff placing it in position and fixing its position etc. etc. - so
what I'd like to be able to do is simply paste the image into the cell.

Anybody know of an app that would let me do this (and hopefully also provide
the basic arithmetical functionality).

OpenOffice's "Calc" spreadsheet allows pasting images into a cell as
well as inserting them with "Insert | Graphics | From File", but you
do need to click-and-drag afterward to resize the image to the cell or
the cell to the image (it does not automatically "zoom" itself).

Well, the spreadsheet in OpenOffice.org is a full fledged spreadsheet (all
the calculating abilities) and it might do the trick for the images. I use
the 'hyperlink' feature to link cells to external images. Not a thumbnail,
though.

Within a cell, do Insert | Hyperlink and then just enter (or browse) the
location for an image under Document Path. The hyperlink will then appear
in the cell, and clicking the hyperlink will open the external image with
whatever program it's associated with - I use IrfanView.

What's nice about this is that it keeps the images outside the spreadsheet
itself. So I can update the various images in their actual files, and the
spreadsheet doesn't require any modifications.
