This process is draining ALL cpu resources. It's running
at 99% and making it virtually impossible to open any
applications. If I end the process, everything is fine
but the process always seems to start itself back up and
hogging all my resources.

what gives?

Do you have a recent (2002 or newer) version of an antivirus program
that has been updated with current definitions? If not, get one now and
run it, preferably in Safe Mode. See, e.g.,
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.ciadoor.b.html

I have the same problem! I have to end the spoolsv.eve.
task to be able to use my computer. I have run Norton
AntiVirus (definitions from 1/29/04) without finding any
viruses.

spoolsv started misbehaving after I installed a network
printer. Somewhere in my search for a fix it sounded like
this may be caused by a damaged printer driver, but after
deleting the printer, the problem persisted.
