For some reason the spoolsv.exe program has decided to take over my
computer. It will start running and finally cause the computer to crash. Any
suggestions? Are there any references I could look at?
Thanks,

Barry

Thanks,

here's what i would do:

start -> control panel -> administrative tools -> services

scroll down to "print spooler" -> right click on it and pick properties

change startup type to "manual" because it's probably on automatic
right now.

click the stop button and then click apply

click ok

this procedure will keep you from being able to print anything, but it
will stop that spoolsv.exe from loading up and crashing your computer.

if you still see spoolsv.exe in your task manager after stopping it,
then you might want to search on google for "spoolsv.exe" because some
links suggest there may be spyware or a virus that shows up in task
manager this way. i've never seen this occur.

this is the first thing i would do just to keep your system stable if
that's really the problem. i'm sure there's someone out there in the
group that could suggest a complete fix, but you'll have to wait for
that reply. if you want to print, or if you want to set everything
back to normal, just go ahead and follow the procedure but change it
back to "automatic" and then hit apply then ok and you should be good
to go.

hope this helps for now.
