Spooler service

I have a new emachine with XP and a new Lexmark printer
(okay, so I'm on a budget!) and it's been working fine
for a few months. All the sudden I can't print and there
seems to be no printer installed. When I go to the
control panel and try to add, I get, "Operation could not
be completed" and when I put in the Lexmark CD-ROM to
install, it says that the spooler service has been
stopped and that it needs to be restarted. Do you want
to restart it Yes/No? When I click Yes nothing happens.
Any suggestions?

Try what Cari suggested. If that doesn't work, try
Start-Run-services.msc. Double click on the Spooler Service, set it to
Automatic, click OK, restart, and see if that helps.
