How can I re-install Microsoft's Print Spooler Service?

I got an alert the other day that a process, LEXPPS.EXE was trying to access
the internet.
After doing some research I discovered that lots of people have got this.
(Some suspect it is spyware, but it may be just a service to allow printer
sharing) I also found several related files in c:\windows\system32.

lexpps.exe
lex2kusb.dll
lexbce.dll
lexbcs.exe
lexlmpm.dll
lexp2p32.dll
lexping.exe

All were installed with a Lexmark printer that I have long since disposed of
because it was such a POS. (small rant) I also uninstalled (or so I
thought) all the Lexmark drivers.
However, if I remove, or rename these files, when I restart the computer,
the print spooler service does not start (error log says it is missing
components). All printer are gone from the list and I can't print at all.
So I suspect that Lexmark (bless their cold little hearts) has replaced or
modified the standard print spooler service.

Anyone have guidance for how to get the standard print spooler service
components back?
 
Hi,

Start/run services.msc and click ok. Scroll down the list to the print
spooler service and double click it. What is the path to the executable? It
should be spoolsv.exe.

Start > Run > services.msc
look for Lexbce service & stop it if it's running. Then go into printers &
faxes, click on File > Server Properties > Driver tab. Chances are lexmark
is listed there too. Select it & choose remove.
 
See steps 15 through 17 at Bruce Sanderson's website.... Lexmark drivers
make the printer spooler service dependent on their own drivers. You must
remove the dependency.

I checked the spooled executable, and it WAS spoolsv.exe. However, what
Bruce Sanderson's web site reveals is that Lexmark hasn't replaced the print
spooler, just made it dependant on their drivers. (Aren't they sweet - and
their uninstall doesn't remove the dependancy either. No wonder people
think
it's a virus or malware. It might as well be)

So, after following the directions at BS's web site: (snapshot follows:)

C:\Documents and Settings\Moshup>sc config spooler depend= RPCSS
[SC] ChangeServiceConfig SUCCESS

C:\Documents and Settings\Moshup>net stop spooler
The Print Spooler service is stopping.
The Print Spooler service was stopped successfully.

C:\Documents and Settings\Moshup>net start spooler
The Print Spooler service is starting.
The Print Spooler service was started successfully.

I then followed KrazE advice and found the Lexbce service and "disabled" it
for good. I then renamed all the files listed below and rebooted. It
works!
lexpps.exe and lexbce.exe are no longer listed in the process list, and the
print system is working fine.
 
Language Monitor - Installing?

First, thanks to all for the GREAT info concerning the lovely Lexmark. I've been plagued by the nasty spooler service dependency. But no more!

Like the perfect direction-follower that I am :o , while running a MS Resource Kit automatic spooler cleaner, I managed to delete a language monitor/print monitor necessary to reinstall my printer (yes, it's a Lexmark; no, I won't be using it for much longer; yes, I will run out and buy a proper printer at the first chance I get and avoid Lexmark like the plague forever).

Anybody know how to reinstall a language monitor? Microsoft says to edit the *.inf file in directory where printer driver is installed, but driver won't install AT ALL, so can't get there and do this. Any wisdom out there on this?
