When trying to connect to a HP Photosmart 1115 printer,
we get message about Spooler problem. What is a Spooler
and how can I fix it?

Hi,

Spooler service is the one that controls the printing jobs in XP. for more
info, refer:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;308028

Coming to the issue at hand, you need to restart the spooler service to
resolve the issue:
1.. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
3.. Double-click the Printer Spooler service, and then change the startup
type to Automatic. This sets the Spooler service to start automatically when
you restart the computer.
4.. If you want to start the spooler service immediately, click the Start
button under the Service Status field.
Hope this helps. :-)

Rgds,
Sathya

Spooler or Spooling is where your print jobs are put in
a print Queue so that the application can be released
from the printing process before printing is completed.
A kind of error that often happens is jams or a job
doesn't get done and it jams the queue holding up other
print jobs if you double click on the icon of the printer
in the control panel. The queue will pop up and if there
is a job jammed in it. Other than that it is hard to say
without more info.
