Got a really weird problem. When printing a PDF file
from a share on my filserver the output goes directly to
a file called IP_100.100.100.100. (i.e. the IP address)
but not to the printer. The file IP_100.100.100.100. is
saved on the same place as the pdf file.

I have seen this question come up a couple of times around here. I think
that we are gonna need some more detailed information:
- Printer Model?
- What is the port name and port description of the printer
- Are you using in-box drivers or vendor supplied (and if so, what version?)

- Does this only happen to .PDF files?
- Does this happen to other users as well?

connection: users are using thin terminals all around the
country
Users do not have autocreated printers

enviroment:

Windows 2000 Terminal server with metaframe 1.8
Printserver
Fileserver
Active directory
printer (the one i test it on) Hp laserjet 4100
driver= hplaserjet 4100 Series PCL
acrobat reader 5.1
users works on published desktop

scenario:
When a user try to print document from a fileshare
(\\filserver\share\test.pdf. Ntfs is full controll on the
share.)
The printer is a installed printer from the printserver.
(the spool directory is default on the printserver).
He opens the document and try to print.
The document that he try to print is spooled up to the
same directory
as the documment is opend from
((\\filserver\share\test.doc)but now
the it gets another name. The name is the same as the
printers IP.
Now I have 2 document on the fileserver one test.doc and
one
IP_100.100.100.100 the type is 33file.
If users print pdf document in IE it works fine.
If users print word document from the share it works fine.

It sounds like an Acrobat problem to me, strangely Acrobat has many problems
printing.

I concur, I think you should contact Adobe support. It looks like the issue
is pretty localized to Acrobat (maybe it's just with ver5.1?)

If you wish to pursue a resolution to this issue, I suggest that you
contact Microsoft Support. You issue has been seen before in internal
testing, reference Bug #827524 when you call.
