I have a user who is printing a 336Kb powerpoint presentation. I
consists of 12 slides. When they print it the file it creates a spoo
file over 30Mb in size. They then printed 10 copies and that created
300Mb print file.

I have been charged with discovering why a 336 Kb file becomes so muc
larger when it is printed.

Any help would be appreciated! I've been trying to find an explanatio
on the web, but have been having no luck

Ppt isn't so good at creating nice PCL or postscript from images and graphic
effects. What you're seeing is pretty typical is the presentation has lots
of gradients or transparency effects.

<that should qualify as "any help" > :-)

Thanks for the quick responses. I had a hunch the gradiendt backgroun
might be to blame for the size increase.

Is their any way to reduce the size of the spool file which Pp
creates, without degrading print quality? The file is printing 1 slid
per page, any loss in quality will be noticeable

Is the gradient a JPG or is it just a PPT gradient background? I have no
idea if this would help or not, but I wonder if using a gradient PNG
would spool smaller...

Sorry, but I really have a problem with forums that slurp the MS
newsgroups and make it look as if people are providing answers to *that*
forum.)
