Spontaneous re-boot of xp

Hi, anyone out there know what would cause a Win/xp
Home Edition to do this ? I'll be in the middle of
doing nothing in particular (sometimes it's e-mail,
sometimes surfing the web), and the computer acts as
if I just shut it down and restarted it. Anything
in the print queue resumes printing afterward, and
the machine upon reboot doesn't act as if it's an
abnormal reboot.
Another problem I have is I have a product called
Secure IE (which is Internet Explorer but enhanced
with certain features), that also spontaneously
ends itself. Whether I'm doing something on the web
or not, I suddenly get thrown out of the window.
My machine is as follows : HP Pavilion 751 1.8 ghz

Any one who can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Please send reply to above e-mail.

You obviously are getting an error of some kind and are configured to 'reboot'
on error. In control panel ---system---advanced tab-- change to not reboot on
error. Then, when an error occurs you can investigate it. Don't forget to look
in the 'event viewer'.

You have something that is crashing - and the system's 'automatically
restart' is cutting in. Turn this off: in Control Panel - System -
Advanced, click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section. There
uncheck 'automatically restart'. You can also usefully change the
'write debugging information' to (none). You may now get a Blue screen
failure instead, but at least will get some guidance as to what is
happening. If this is a driver, shown by a consistent something.sys in
the bottom line of the BSOD< then look for it in
Windows\system32\drivers and right click. Properties - Version should
show what it is connected with and you can look for a new version.

If it is a random failure then either overheating or trouble with RAM
are likely things to be causing it

I, too, had this exact same problem. I would get "report error to MicroSoft" messsage and the report would always come back "unknown driver problem". I removed questionable hardware and software to eliminate drivers--with no result. Turned off reboot feature in order to get blue screen with error message--got one blue screen with one generic error message (of no help) and then about 99 more reboots. Finally called my warranty service. Warranty service replaced: hard drive, mother board, memory, and power supply with out fixing problem. Finally, warranty service tech had me go to manufacturer of my computer and download updated chipset (I think) drivers. Problem was solved a month ago and has not recurred. Good luck to you.
