Splitting when there is no hard drive

The usual advice when using a network server is to split into front end and
backend with backend on the server and front end on each hard drive. One of
my customers is wanting to get rid of all hard drives and have 'terminals' to
the server. I was wondering whether the more experienced among you had any
comments about the pros and cons of splitting in this circumstance.

Having multiple users in the same front-end is a recipe for corruption.

If they're not going to have hard drives, at least give each user his/her
own copy of the front-end on the network. It'll be slower, and will generate
far more network traffic.

Thanks for that advice Doug.
