Hello all. Thanks for reading this. Maybe yall can help
with a little problem that I'm having. I have my video
complete. I have music and video with audio in it. There
are parts of the audio that I would like to be heard, but
I can't for the life of me figure out how to turn the
volume of the music down in one area so that the audio on
the video can be heard! Anyone know any how-to's that
would work? Thanks!!

You just need to split your audio track at the
points where you want to adjust the volume.

Then right-click on the audio clip, select
Volume, and make the desired adjustment.

Hello there,

This is fairly easy, but if you want to do something very clever, Movie
Maker does not lend itself to the task very well.

You have to consider the audio track as consisting of compartments. Inside
each compartment a change in the condition of the audio will occur. To make
these compartments simply select the audio track, position the cursor at
the location of the start and end of a compartment and the use the split
icon (pair of scissors) and split the track. The result is that you can now
change the properties (within the scope of Movie Maker) of each
compartment. To do this right click each compartment and select the option
of your choice. Because you have made compartments, changes in one will
have no effect on any of the others.

Sorry, I'm at work and not on my pc with movie maker on it but isn't there a
volume button over on the left hand side of the timeline (by the + and -
buttons), that does exactly what he wants. clicking this volume button
brings up a slider which controls the difference in volume between the audio
track vs the background audio ???

Knott,

I believe what you described applies to the entire
movie. Josh only wants to turn down the volume of
the music track in one area only. The only way to
do that (AFAIK) is to split the music track into
multiple segments and then adjust the volume on an
individual segment as I described.

I stand corrected, thank you both.

Hi,

One way is to go to your timeline view and select the
audio track. Split the audio clip just before and just
after the section of the video you want to hear better.
Then reduce the volume on the audio track in the section
between the two splits you created.
