Hello,

I have a large presentation - 114MBs worth. I need to get
this over to a printer who can only print 40MBs at a
time. Is there a way of splitting the presentation into
portions to allow my printer to print each one in turn?

Thanks,

Nick.

Which version of PP do you have? For example, in PP2002 you can use
this simple way: open presentation; go to view; select slide sorter
view; shift-click on a sequential run of your slides (in your case
perhaps about 25% of them); choose copy; go to file > new; go to slide
sorter view; paste; choose to retain format of pasted slides.

You can repeat this for each successive 25% of your slides. (I
suggest 25% as this - other things being equal - will be less than
your 40 Mb limit.

why do you want to split up your presentation? Open the print dialog box
with "File - Print" and choose e.g. printing only slides 1 - 10, then 11 -
20, etc.

I would strongly recommend that you try reducing your file size, by turning
off "Fast Save" and/or by compressing the images, if you don't want to run
into difficulties with a presentation of that size!

Kind regards,
Ute

Nick,

I'm a bit confused by your questions.

Is the problem getting the powerpoint file to the printer (a local printer
in the office...e.g. an HP Inkjet)
Is the problem getting the powerpoint file to the printer (a local printer
in the high street...e.g. WePrintBusinessCards.com made up)
Or is the problem the amount of data that an office printer can handle per
page?

I'll assume you mean that the printer can only accept files up to 40mb each
by email or ftp transfer.

Make three or four copies of your original file.
Open the first copy, choose View, Slide Sorter. Select and delete all the
slides from roughly the 1/4 point on.
Save the file.
Check to see that it's less than 40mb. If not, delete some more slides and
save again until it is.

Let's say that gives you a file with slides 1 through 20 in it.

Now open then next copy, delete slides 1 to 20, then delete all but another
1/4 of the presentation from the end.

And so on ... you get the idea, right?

And if you have page numbers showing on the original file and want to
preserve the pagination, make sure you adjust the page numbers via
File > Page Setup > Number Slides From ... on the second file and each
file thereafter.

On a side note, your file size *might* be overly large for your
current purposes. See "Why are my PowerPoint files so big? What can I
do about it? -- The PowerPoint FAQ" at

Best of luck,

Oops. Thanks, Tony.
