Splitting clips

When I split a clip is the original clip left alone and 2 new clips added?
Or, is the original clip shortened and a new clip added for the end of the
old clip?

Does the clip happen before or after the visible frame?

Hi Mark,

Splitting results in two smaller clips that in total are the whole original
clip... if they splitting isn't where you want it, use the clip Combine
feature to put them back together into the original.

MM2 is an every other frame working environment.... read my newsletter #55
for some insights into what frames you're actually seeing when you work with
clips in the collection and timeline.... it's now online for general
viewing, with a link to it on the Problem Solving > Video Issues page of my
website.

Actually, what I'm seeing is this:
Split Clip 1.
See new Clip 1a show up.
What I expected was Clip 1 to contain the first half and Clip 1a. to contain
the second half.
What I saw was Clip 1 was unchanged and Clip 1a contained the second half.

So I was wondering what the behavior should be.

I'll pay close attention when I get back to experimenting with MM2. I might
have simply missed something.

I have to start over anyway. I left the onscreen display turned on when I
captured the video. I'll review all the info the various websites, too.
Lots of good stuff to digest.

Hello,

Within Movie Maker...splitting a clip or creating clips during or after a
capture has NO EFFECT on the original file. ALL references to clips are
simply entries in a database marking the start and end of a section of
video within the given original file. None of the mentioned steps,
splitting creating etc create a new file on your hard drive. The only time
you create a new file is when you save the result of your work to the hard
drive by clicking on Create Movie File or by pressing CTRL-P
