We have a domain that has several sites listed in differenct cities. Our
10.1.2.0 site is being sold off and recently the new company disconnected
the T1 that attached us. Their server was still a 4.0 NT box - but it was
joined to our 2000 domain. When the T1 was shut off they kept getting the
error message - Cannot authenicate with domain control and they could not
log onto the computers. My questions : That NT box is the authenicating
server - shouldn't it still be able to authenicate their computers in that
site - even when the main domain is gone? Or will they have to format and
start their own domain?

You need to promote it to a PDC. You need to point it to a functioning WINS
server. You need to point all the clients to the same functioning WINS
server.

Thank you so much - since they will be their own domain now - would I just
install the WINS service on that server - and point all local machines to
that machine?

I'd say that would be a good candidate for the WINS server. Make sure to
reapply SP 6a AFTER you install WINS.

Guys,

Dont forget about any client, wins, dns and dhcp addresses that may still be
pointing to the old domain. make sure you update these, otherwise you might
get alot of calls from client unable to connect to resources.
