Split vs. Freeze

What is the difference between splitting panes and freezing them..they seem
to do the same thing.

When you freeze a pane, the top row(s) will always remain visible
as you scroll down the worksheet. You cannot change the rows
displayed in the frozen pane. When you split a window, you get
two scrollable regions.
