SPLIT FIELDS IN EXCEL '97

Hi everyone,

I have exported a Report from Retail Manager into Excel '97 and I can't seem
to divide one of the fields into 2.

I have a Customer Field with a Customer No. and a Name in the one Column eg.
(1000) Mr. Joe Smith, then 5 separate Columns of Aging Periods.

All I want to do is to be able to do a sort of all the relevant information
alphabetically, not numerically as the Report wants to do (obviously because
of the Customer No. in brackets).

Is there a Formula or any suggestions on splitting a cell without losing all
the other relevant information?

In Excel, move your Customer field to the last field position to avoid overwriting any
other data, or insert the appropriate number of columns after the Customer field. Then
select the Customer field and click on Data > Text to columns... (I know this function
is available in Excel 2000. I think it is also available in Excel 97).

You can select Other for delimiter and enter a closing parenthesis.

You should end up with something like:

(1000 Mr. Joe Smith

You can repeat the process, using the opening parenthesis as a column delimiter to get rid
of it, or you can also use the Left function to get rid of it.
