Hello All.

I am getting inconsistant reports about my spf
entry. dnsstuff.com shows me to be good.
--------------
You have an SPF record. This is very good, as it
will help prevent spammers from abusing your
domain. Your SPF record is:

"v=spf1 a mx ptr -all" [TTL=3600]
"v=spf1 a -all" [TTL=3600]
----------------
When I run a test at
http://spftools.infinitepenguins.net

I also pass,
------------
SPF short result: pass
SPF verbose result: policy result: (pass) from
rule (mx)
RFC2822 header: Received-SPF: pass

PHP spf1_parser says:

Received-SPF: pass (match mx)
--------------
However, when i run the test from
http://www.dnsstuff.com/pages/spf.htm
----------------
SPF string used: .

Error: I could not get the SPF string [Multiple
SPF records returned; handling as UNKNOWN per
2.1].

Result: UNKNOWN

Known Issues:

* None.
------------------
I am also getting some returned mails with the
message

does not pass SPF requirements for domain

which makes no sense if i pass on the test.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

comb

You did not tell us your domain name, but assuming it is <asdf.com> there are
no advertised TXT records according to <bedlam.asdf.com> or
<katherine.asdf.com> (no answer at all from this one).

However, you indicated that you published 2 SPF records. That is a NO-NO, and
strictly speaking the rejection was correct. You can have only one TXT record
with <v=spf1> in it. If you are using the save server to receive and send mail,
the easiest and most efficient record to publish is <v=spf1 mx -all>.

I did not know that about the 2spf records. We
have one for our main mail server and one for our
backup server we are thinking about switching
over to.

The problem ended up being something on their
side. As far as our spf record we are good to
go. The client wrote us back and told us it was
an outage/issue with their spam protector.

Thanks for the response,

comb
