Spell chekc not working in word tables

Help!! I can't seem to get spell check to see the errors in tables. I have mistyped words on purpose and it never caught them. Does anyone know how to fix the problem?
 
Select the table and go to Tools|Language|Set Language. Make sure that "Do
not check spelling or grammar" is unchecked.

We are experiencing this issue too but it seems that it depends on the user
as this check box is never checked for me but for others it is checked. Can
you please shed some light as to why?
