Spell Checking does not work in OE:

And:

An error occurred while the spelling was being checked or: Spell Check was
halted:

OE 6 does not come with it's own spell check. These are some free spell
check downloads.

Do you mean with Outlook or Outlook Express? Neither Windows XP,
nor any other version of Windows, has ever come with a Spell
Checking facility. Outlook Express uses the spell checker that
comes with Microsoft Word, (or another Microsoft Office program)
if you have it installed.

If you don't have Word or Office installed, you probably don't
have a spell checker. However there are several downloadable
freeware/shareware alternative spell checkers that work with
Outlook Express and Outlook. Since I have no personal experience
with any of these, I'll let someone else recommend one.

On the other hand, if a Microsoft Office component *is*
installed, try the instructions at

Greetings --

Spell check in what specific application? WinXP is an operating
system and naturally has no spell-checking capabilities.

To expand on that, OE will also use the spell checker in MS Works IIRC
and Open Office.
