Spell checker that works with Windows XP and Outlook express?

(apologies if this shows up as a repeat post - the original
didn't show up when I looked for it on alt.comp.freeware)

My (not very computer literate) friend can't spell too well, and
the spell check option is greyed out in his Outlook Express.

His word processor is MS Works, and its spell check works OK, but
it appears the OE spell check function won't integrate with the
MS Works spell checker (OE requires MS Word apparently).

Is there a spell checker which I could install for him which
would work seamlessly with Outlook Express?
(Oh, and he would need a UK English dictionary, not US English)

I've done some searching round and not found anything which is
obviously suitable - have the all purpose spell checker on the
Pricelessware disk, but this appears to be for US English only
and the short write up doesn't say whether APSC integrates
seamlessly with OE. I would prefer not to install this on my own
computer just to find out - hoping some kind soul can tell me :)

Thanks, John Selby.

This may work for you

FreeSpell is a spell checker for any and all Windows applications. You
can use it in Eudora, in Microsoft Outlook, Symantec Visual Cafe, and
even in Windows Explorer when renaming files (though it's a little
tricky to do that). Anything that supports the clipboard supports
FreeSpell, and all it takes is a hotkey to invoke it. Just as important,
FreeSpell is based upon the Aspell engine, which means it offers the
best spell checker around for people with weak spelling skills (as well
for people who just need a quick proofreader). Aspell is full featured
as well, with a large default dictionary, and custom dictionary support.

freespell works very well with xp but i'm not sure how you add a custom
dictionary. You fine out more at

http://hcidesign.com/freespell/

i love the program and would not use anything else very fast simple and
easy.

OE's spell check should work with Works. Yours is a common complaint in
the microsoft newsgroups. Several possible relevant posts here:

Thanks folks, for the suggestions re FreeSpell, and the
workarounds to get OE to use the Works spellcheck.

I will try the latter first, before installing an additional
spell check.

Again, suggestions were much appreciated.

Cheers,

John Selby
