I need simple instructions to disable the spell check
feature in windows XP Home Edition. Somehow I engaged it
and now its driving me nuts with a pop up box suggesting
that I might want to correct the spelling of people's
names. This happens just as I click the "send now" icon
to send an email. I've only had the computer 3 months
and this annoying "helper" showed up just this week.
I've tried using the restore system feature but it didn't
correct the problem. I don't know how or what I did to
engage this feature. I just want to delete it. I'm very
new at using the computer so please keep your answers in
basic english and very simple. Thanks very much. Donna

If you are using Outlook Express:
Open Outlook Express > Tools - Options and then go to the Spelling tab.
Uncheck "Always check spelling before sending"

.
I've never used Outlook Express. I didn't even know I
had it. I just opened it but it doesn't appear to apply
to my current problem. I think I might have been in Word
when I created this situation but I really can't be
sure. Thank you for your help.

Donna,

What program are you using when sending email? Post back with that answer
and I, or someone else, will provide an answer on how to disable the spell
check feature in it.

Sir_George, I wish I knew what program I'm using. All I
can tell you is that my computer came with AOL for one
year. So when I send email I use AOL. But it's all
automatic when I turn on the computer. I never set any
preferences. I can only add that I was exploring this
new computer looking at different fonts and that might I
repeat might have been when I came upon an option to
engage a spell check which I unfortunately opted for and
now it insists on correcting people's names before
allowing me to send my emails. Sorry to be so clueless.
I really appreciate all the help. Donna

Then contact AOHELL - MS cannot be held responsible for the quality (or lack
of) of 3rd-party applications and services. This isn't a Microsoft/Windows
issue.
