I just purchased a new Gateway and it came with windows
XP. Word has been replaced with Word Pad and I can not
find Spell Check on the Word Pad. Where do I find it?

Kevin

Your new Gateway computer should have come with Microsoft Works. That is
where you will find your Microsoft Word with it's included spell checker.

Word has not been replaced with WordPad. WordPad has been part of several
of the last few Microsoft OS's just like NotePad. If you had Word on your
older computer it was because you either bought Word and installed it or it
came bundled with that computer. WordPad does not have a spellchecker.

No, it hasn't been *replaced* by Wordpad. No version of Windows
has *ever* included Microsoft Word--neither XP nor any previous
version. If your previous computer, running Windows 98 or Me,
came with Word, it was because your vendor bundled it with the
package he sold, not because Windows came with it.

WordPad, on the other hand, has come with all versions of Windows
since, if I remember correctly, Windows 95. You had it on your
old computer too.

You don't find it; it's not there. WordPad is not really a word
processor, it's just a glorified text editor. It has very few
facilities, and spell checking is not one of them. If you want a
word processor, you need to buy one: choices are Microsoft Word,
Corel WordPerfect, StartOffice, the freeware OpenOffice, and
others.

Greetings --

Word was not "replaced" by WordPad. Neither the Microsoft Office
application suite, nor any of its individual component applications
(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been
"part" of *any* Windows operating system. They are, and always have
been, separate applications, that must be purchased and installed
separately.

WordPad is little more than a rudimentary text editor and has
never had any spell-checking capabilities.

Greetings --

The new PC would come with Works _only_ if the OP specifically
ordered it that way, and paid accordingly.
