Speeding up report printing

I have a report that is based on several queries. It takes five minutes for
the queries to run, then I can Preview the report. Then it takes another
five while the queries seem to re-run, before printing.

Why do the queries run again? How do I stop them? Any other ideas to speed
up the process?

One obvious solution would be to print it without previweing it.
Instead of clicking the Preview button, just print the printer icon.

Yes, that would help, except sometimes I check the report before printing.
The tables that are the basis for the report have several people doing data
entry, and they sometimes make errors that I catch before I kill a tree.

How about speeding up the query? Look up "index" in Access Help to get some
techniques.

Another idea is to store the results of your query in a temporary table,
then run the report from that table. That has the added benefit of knowing
the printed report has the same information you previewed (if additional
data entry has been done in the mean time).

Are you using "Page n of n Pages" in the report? Any time you use [Pages]
you double the processing time on the report. It is processed once through
to the end so that the number of pages can be determined and then it runs
the whole thing again.
