I switched from dial up to cable with modem a few months
ago. There is no improvement in the speed of my computer.
Still not fast like others I know with the same thing.
(computer only 1 year old) Some one said it could be the
drivers?
Possibly the cable modem ste up? PLEASE HELP ! I am not
real computer savy so please understand this ! Thanks
much !

The best thing to do would be to call Comcast or your
cable provider. You're paying them every month for the
access but don't forget the service too.

As far a speed, two things to consider:

1. Does your computer work okay and nice and speedy when
your not on the net? Try using your programs or play a
DVD (if you have a computer DVD drive). Are things fast?
If so, then it's not your computer.

2. Not all cable modems are alike. I'm not sure, but if
you asked around you'll find that certain brands perform
better than others.

3. Getting the internet through a cable system (as
opposed to DSL from the phone company) more than likely
will be slower. Why? Because, the cable company puts
you on a "hub" with other users. The more people that
get cable modems and sign up, may also be on your hub.
It's like someone builds a new road and tells you that
it's wide open with no congestion and a month later
everyone is using the same road.

In contrast DSL, provided by the phone company in many
areas, will sell you the road and guarantee the rate of
speed.

That may or may not be your problem.

4. As with Dialup, you should be able to check your
connect speed. That may help to inform you of any
problems

i have DSL and it was also slow... their may be a number
of reasons why your speed is slow, one reason may be, if
your computer is not near a phone jack, and your using a
line extender, anything over 7 feet will start to
diminish your connection, if this is the case, your phone
company can come out and install a phone jack for about
$99.00 otherwize check to make shure you have your
filters set up correctly, you can also go to
http://www.2wire.com and use their online bandwidth test
to determine your internet connection speed.
