Hi Krista,
I'm not exactly an expert with Windows Media Player, but I know of two
options for you:
1. You can set Windows Media Player as the default for all types of Media
Files. According to Article Q332003 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, "When
you install Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Service Pack 1a (SP1a),
Windows adds a new feature that is named Set Program Access and Defaults to
the Add or Remove Programs tool. You can use this feature to change the
default programs that you use for certain activities on your computer, such
as surfing the Internet, sending e-mail messages, playing CDs, or talking
with friends by using an instant messaging program. You can also specify
which programs are available from the Start menu, the desktop, and other
locations." Check out the rest of the article, which includes step-by-step
instructions, at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;332003.
2. You can pick and choose for which files you want Windows Media Player to
be your default player in the Options dialog box within the player itself.
In Windows Media Player on the Tools menu, click Options. In the Options
dialog box, on the File Types tab, select the file types for which you want
Windows Media Player to be the default player.
I hope this helps.
