I need to insert special characters into an excel
spreadsheet and have not been able to find a way. Any
suggestions? I have Microsoft Excel 2000
Thank you

Hi Joanna!

Four ways:

Upgrade to Excel 2002 or Excel 2003 which have Insert > Symbol

Copy and paste from a Word Document

Find the code for the symbol you want:

Here's Chip Pearson's list of the common ones:
Euro ? 0128
Ellipsis . 0133
Dagger ? 0134
Double Dagger ? 0135
Bullet . 0149
Trademark T 0153
Cents ¢ 0162
Pounds £ 0163
Yen ¥ 0165
Copyright © 0169
Registered ® 0174
Plus/Minus ± 0177
Paragraph ¶ 0182
Degree ° 0176

Once found the method of entry is to press and hold down Alt then type
the number and then release Alt.

Finally, you can download Chip's Symbolize.

What sort of "special"?

There are various methods to insert Symbols and other characters.

Copy from Windows CharMap.

Enter by using ALT + ascii number.

e.g. ALT + 0176 on numpad will enter a "degree" symbol(°)

More info please.
