Hi,

Hope someone can help me here.
I've wrote speaking notes in Word 2000 and tried to copy
and paste these into PowerPoint 2000 but I've lost all my
formatting, i.e. tables do not paste in and the text goes
ski-wift!

I've tried a paste link to the Word doc but the file size
has rose to 82Mb!

Is there an easier way to do this?

Thanks

Tony

Where are you pasting the notes? If you go to View/NotesPage and just paste
the table onto the page itself (as opposed to pasting it into the
placeholder), does that help?

How are you doing the Paste Link? If you're using Insert/Object/From File,
navigating to the Word document, and then clicking "ok," you're actually
inserting the entire Word document on each slide's notes. Well, you're doing
that if you forget to check the "link" button there, anyway. :-)

Copying in Word and using Edit/Paste Special/Paste Link should work, though.
What are you choosing in the Paste Link options? (I only have an option for
"Word Object" here, but I figure I'd better ask the obvious anyway.)

The file size increase *could* be due to having Fast Saves turned on in
PPT's Tools/Options. (You should turn that off anyway.) Then again, how big
is your Word document?
Is there an easier way to do this?

Not really, not if you need the stuff in Word to get to the speaker notes
area in PPT. If you were just creating slides themselves from the Word
document, File/Send to PowerPoint is easier, assuming that you've taken the
time to set up your text using Word styles so that it goes where you want in
PPT.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

PowerPoint does not provide that level of integration with Word. To get
that kind of integration you would have to write your own solution (e.g.
VBA) or find some 3rd party solution already developed.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) thinks that is important for
PowerPoint to provide better (or any) support for support for consuming,
viewing and/or interacting with data and documents from other Office
applications (without having to resort to VBA or add-ins), don't forget to
send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)

Thanks lads for the replies.

It's a bit disappointing to learn that I cannot paste in
my speaking notes which were prepared in Word. They
contained a lot of statistical information, presented in
tables, which could not be easily displayed any other way.

Thanks Echo for your comments. I already tried what you
suggested, even attmpting VBA! In the end I had to give
up, the presentation was deadlined.

I liked your last sugestion (I never knew you could this),
and I will give it a go soon. I have another presentation
to prepare next week with the same requirements for
speaking notes.
