Does anyone know why speakers would not operate for Windows XP if they had worked for 98? I didn't have to install the drivers last time. I just upgraded today, but I have restarted my computer.

Upgrading to Windows XP from an older version is not recommended. You should
always do a fresh install. Anyway, you should search for updated drivers for
your soundcard.

And :

double click on the loudspeaker icon in the systray to make sure all sliders
are up to the max. For some reason XP sets them at a low level when an
upgrade is done.
