i can't get sound to work from either speaker.
there is power (green light on speaker). i've ensured all settings are
correct. (nothing mute etc).
speakers used to work before a house move.
how to physically test other than on another computer?
 
You could try reinstalling your audio drivers....

And check once more that you have the speakers connected to the correct
socket on the audio output.

You can physically test your speakers if they use the 1/8 inch head phone
jacks with any standard radio that also has this jack.
