Have a look in the "Device Manager" in the "Hardware" tab of "System"
in "Control Panel".
Is there a section "Sound, video and game controllers" ?
If not, you're in real trouble - install again!
If there is, right click on each item in that group (click on the
little + on its left to open the group) and choose "uninstall" so that
they vanish from the list.
When you reboot after doing that, Windows will re-discover the various
parts of your sound card and try to re-install the drivers. If it
doesn't have them, it will ask you to provide the CDrom which goes
with your sound-card, so get that handy first, if possible.
