Speakers Don't Function

Hewlett Packard sent me a new monitor because the one I
bought last August was shocking me. (Couldn't touch it
without being shocked.) The new monitor has built in
speakers; the old one didn't. When I received the new
one I detached the outside speakers. Then the speakers
on the new one stopped working. I checked everything out
in the control panel, but everything looked alright, so I
reatached the outer speakers and they worked so I left it
at that. They worked fine for 6 months, then the built
in speakers started working, so I turned off the outer
ones. This morning when I booted up, neither one of them
worked? Has anyone got any ideas about this? I'm very
confused!

After I posted this message I did call HP. All they had
to say was that my connections must be loose! They are
not; I checked everything before I even posted.

Christina,

Check the speaker set up in the Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices,
Volume tab, Speaker Settings Advanced button and see if it matches your
setup.

You might also check and make sure the sound didn't accidentally get muted.
This is also under the Volume tab in the Device volume area.

Thanks, Mike, but yes, I have already done all that.
This is really weird. However, I reconnected my desktop
speakers, and they are working so at least I have a
speaker system now. Cannot for the life of me figure out
what happened to the Monitor speakers. Want to thank you
for your reply.

You're welcome, Christina.

I'm sorry I don't have any other ideas as to why your monitor speakers
won't work, but I'm glad you got the desktop speakers to work.

Good luck,

Mike
