Hey Martin, Go to control panel and click on sounds and audio. The first window that comes up has a box you need to check about 2/3 down the page asking if you want an icon. And don't worry too much, it get alot easier. Do you have a help and support progam in your start menu? Like a microsoft Knowlege base? If so go in and go from one catagorey or one search question to the next. That is what I did and it really helped me! I didn't even know how to turn on a pc when I got mine a year and half ago. I still have problems from time to time but the help and support program I have is like a huge encyclopedia, so if I can figure out what to write in the search box, I have found the answers everytime!
Good Luck and Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!! Tricia
P.S. I almost forgot ...after you get the icon back in taskbar if you right clic
on speaker you will see 2 options. In volumn contol click options then properties and you can set your sound a lot better there/ more choices
