Span Tags

Can someone tell me how I turn off the <span lang> tag.
All text I type into the Editor is preceeded with <span
lang="en-au"> and finishes with </span>

Using FP2002, Creating on my HDD, then Publishing. On
Web Settings: "Ignore the keyboard when deciding the
encoding of new pages" is greyed out.
 
Many Thanks Stephan for your information. Fear of doing
all the things you suggested forced me to do some more
research, after 15 hour of looking, I eventually found
what I was after. In Knowledge Base Article 311574 it
states:

"Span Lang Tag Inserted if Keyboard and Language Do Not
Match
If you set the page language to a language different from
the keyboard language, any text that you type on the page
is encapsulated with the following tag:
<span lang="keyboard language code">

SP-1 changes this behavior so that this tag is used only
when the keyboard and page language use different code
pages. "

I post this information in the hope that others inflicted
with this glitch may benefit.

Try
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
3) In Windows Explorer Find and delete the file CMDUI.PRF
4) Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins
5) Run a Repair / Reinstall on FP & IE
