Spampal performance

I am using Spampal and it works fine (and probably would work extremely well
if I spent a bit of time investigating the various spam methods it has) but
I do have one problem.

If I have not used the computer for a week, say, and come back it seems to take
a very long time to process all the backed up spam and email.

Is there some trick to reducing this time or is there some other spam program
that would be faster?

No doubt your inbox is full of mydoom virus emails ;)

But... you can certainly do some things to speed up processing. For example,
only use 2-4 dnsbls max, as if you are trying to use a load of them, it'll slow
things down no end.

Whitelist your email addresses, as this speeds up the processing.

If you are using too many plugins, this will slow down things... perhaps, if
you are using the RegEx Filter, disable it and see if that speeds things up.

It's a trade off between speed and the level of spam detection you want.

I just noticed on Freshmeat
http://freshmeat.net/projects/pop3spam/?branch_id=44233&release_id=151975
a reference to a program called pop3spam which says:

"If a message has been identified as unsolicited, it can be deleted
directly from the POP3 server without the need to download it first."

Is there some way to get Spampal to do that? I suspect that would
speed it up.
