A spammer scanned my computer and found the open port for
sending pop up spam message. I can't seem to remember
which port it is to close, or how to shut the service
down. Suggestions?

There is a type of spam that has become quite common over the past

few months, and unintentionally serves as a valid security "alert." It

demonstrates that you haven't been taking sufficient precautions while

connected to the Internet. Your data probably hasn't been compromised

by these specific advertisements, but if you're open to this exploit,

you may well be open to other threats. Install and use a decent,

properly configured firewall. (Disabling the messenger service, as

some people recommend, only hides the symptom, and does nothing to

secure your machine.) And ignoring or just "putting up with" these

messages and the problem they represent is particularly foolish.

Thanks for the links- the second one was the one I was
looking for. I am behind a firewall, and have been for a
number of years. Today is the first day I've ever gotten
those ads (I've heard of other people getting them). I'll
have to check for an update to the firewall, or try to
reconfigure it. I've noticed the firewall -has- been
blocking those message (up until today); curious they've
made it through...
