Space Shuttle Cockpit

This is quite random, but so interesting I thought I had to share it :D

As part of the project I am working on I've had to find out a bit more about the US Space Shuttle's avionics system and cockpit... and I came across this photo:

How cool is that! The cockpit actually looks quite dated, but look at the view out of the window - it doesn't look miles apart from a commercial jet cockpit.

If you aren't a geek like me, I've probably just wasted 1MB of your bandwidth! ;)
 
...er...if that's a photo taken while actually in flight, who's driving?:eek: :eek: :eek: :D
Btw...I'm sure I read somewhere that many of the interior panels of space shuttles are made of some sort of edible material that can actually be eaten in dire emergencies (some sort of carbohydrate or something)...do you know if that's true Ian?:confused:

I've got no idea to be honest! Quite a good idea if true though ;)
