a short while ago i installed sp4 on my home win2k pro
machine.this caused all sorts of problems nad so was
uninstalled.i asked on these forums and found out that i
should have removed my firewall first(zone alarm)
what i need to know now is how best to fix the resulting
errors:eg:i cannot now right click on certain features
such as the clock nor change it, or defrag.this is all
from installing and uninsyalling sp4.so..do i now remove
my firewall and reinstall sp4?, or can i reinstall windows
first?will this leave all my installed programs as they
are or will i have to reinstall them also?what if i put on
xp instead?

Howdy,

I ordered the SP4 CD, so will see how things go in a few days.

Just wondering if you used Add/Remove to run the removal of all
your Service Packs, and then restarted, and ran only the SP4 (if
compatible with your pc model and software), if this would do it?

Of course don't have any programs running other than the operating
system itself at the time, and usually I pull the plug to the
outside lines, unless the
SP4 needs it connected? Sometimes it can be hard to know what
programs might all be running in the background, but it is
do-able.

An inplace upgrade and then installation of Service Pack 4 may fix your dll
mismatch problems. I would recommend backing up your system before
performing this kind of operation.

turn off all my progs running in the background, ie;
avg, zone alarm. and then do windows update for all that
