I installed SP4 and now the computer will not complete
startup. It is almost complete when the blue screen pops
up with the following message: STOP: c000026c (unable to
load device driver) \SystemRoot\system32
\DRIVERS\atapi.sys device driver could not be loaded.
Error staus was 0xc0000130
F8 to safe mode ends with the same message.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

| Gary,
|
| I suggest that boot from your Windows 2000 CD, then run a repair from
| Windows CD and overwrite all files back to the versions that are on
| Windows 2000 CD.
| After that re-apply Service Pack 3 and all the other security patches
| upgrades.
|
| That is what I ended up with, on 2 computers that I have in my home
| mini-LAN.
|
| One of them was a mess after SP4 and the other ended up in having a
| stop message and despite removing all third part peripherals and
| drivers, I had to run repair and go from there.
|
| For me, SP4 was one big buggy mistake, and a waste of time.

I used a slipstreamed W2K SP4 disk a while back to install and
I have ran sfc /scannow a couple of times. No problems. W2K
_IS_ picky about hardware and drivers.
