try copying sp4 to your harddrive and run it from there

How? Should I just go to the page and download to the desktop rather then
the update site?

Ooops I think I misread your post...I thought you had SP4 on a cd.
It apparantly already is on your HD.

The download may be corrupt...and if that's the case you will have to
download it again.

The files should be the same, no matter where you get it on the Microsoft
site

How do I check for the kernal switch? I tried downloading from the other
windows site and it still wont work...

Make sure there is no /KERNEL switch being used in boot.ini

Try going to Control Panel|System|Advanced|Startup and Recovery I don't
remember if Windows 2000 has the option to view boot.ini from here. If not
you can;

Start|Run|edit C:\boot.ini

or just look for it in the root of the system partition and open it with
notepad.exe

Make sure you have a recovery strategy before editing the operating system.

2000 does have the sys recovery but nothing leading me to find boot.ini or
kernall switching

Then you'll need to try one of the other two options.
