Hi

Having upgraded to SP4 I now find that my sound card
doesn't work, no PC sounds and any attempt to play music
results in error message "Wave out format not supported"

Nothing has changed on my hardware other than the SP4
upgrade, any ideas please

is the soundcard visible in device manager?
check or reinstall or upgrade drivers
check hcl if your soundcard is compatible with windows
check dxdiag.exe
tool
check control panel --sound&mmedia

Andrew

thanks for the assistance

I've tried alll the options you've suggested with no luck
The card shows in Device Managaer reports working fine
Dxdiag.exe shows no faults
its a Sound blaster so is on the HCL
Control Pannel Sound Media show Audio all options Greyed
out so its not recognising the card

I have purchased another sound card and installed this
today, with exactly the same results.

The SB card was working okay before the upgrade, I can
only think of reinstalling orginal ver of Win 2K

okay, try integrating SP4 into windows 2000, and reinstall windows
strange problem though
reinstall directX, although methink the problem is that windows does not
recognize mixer device

try setting unsigned driver behaviour to `warn` - perhaps the mixer device
driver is not signed and it just doesn't start

Andrew

Thanks for the guidance, I'll give your suggestions a try
this weekend, will post the results here

regards

................and now we have Music !!

From Control Pannel /Add-Remove programs took each update
out rebooted until i arrived at the one that was
conflicting with the Multimedia Sound. Solution remove
multimedia re run the updates, restore the mulitmedia,
everything works.

Andrew thabks for the guidance
