After installing SP4 on our Windows 2000 servers, all MAC
computers stopped printing. Tried to reinstall SFM but no
help. The only thing that works is to remove SP4 from the
server.

How are you connecting to the Win2K machines from the Macs?
How are the printers connected?
Are these PS or PCL printers? What brands, etc?

A little more info would be very helpful.

Thanks

I work with Dino (The originator of this thread) but know
a little more about the problem. Here are the answers to
the questions you asked. Thanks,

The Macs are connecting to the Win2K server using
AppleTalk, and the server is running services for
Macintosh.

The printers are connected to the server using TCP/IP then
shared out using Services for Macintosh.

It doesn't matter if you use PCL or PS drivers on the
server, I've tried it with both and neither work. We
usually us the PS drivers.

Most of the printers in question are the Lexmark 45N, but
we've also tried Lexmark M410, Lexmark T612, and Tektronix
Phaser 840. None work while printing from the Macs, but
work fine from the Server itself.

Just to let you know as well, this problem happens from
both Mac OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.2.6; if you are using
appletalk to print. It is also happening at multiple
locations. Thanks again.

Yes, the Win2k server can print to the printers, but the
Macintosh clients cannot print. The jobs never make it to
the queue on the server, since the job never makes it that
far, no errors are generated on the server. The job sits
on the client, but never actually creates an error, the
client just keeps trying to send it.

I can print to the printers from Windows, so the printers
are hooked up correctly. I am not completely sure what
you mean when you ask if I "captured the ports or not?"

I checked the security settings on the print queues on the
server, and everything looks fine; the everyone group has
access to print. I didn't see anything interesting in the
event viewer. Thanks again for your help.

Looks like I'm only getting part of this post.

Anyways - re: capturing the ports. I suspect that when you go into the
printer properties, selecting the tab that says ports, then the
configure ports - capture is what is being referred to.

My question is whether theare are any printing issues with SP4????

Can you delete the windows printers on the Mac side and then use the chooser
to reconnect to them? Please let me know if this has an effect.

I just tried an SP3 to SP4 upgrade in my office and was able to print from
my Mac just fine to both SP3 before the upgrade and SP4 after said upgrade.
I tried this on TCP/IP ports and LPR ports, as well as LPT1.

We'll try and figure this out, but I need more information. Can you try and
explain your network topography to me?

Thanks
