Oh boy, what a Monday. This is sort of a convoluted tale so it may sound
weird at the beginning, but hang with me.
I tried to update via Windows Update. The computer has an 18 Gig HD, but
unbeknownst to me, C:\ is only 2 Gigs formatted in NTFS. D:\ is
partitioned at 16 Gigs and formatted in FAT32. When I installed SP4, it
would not complete installation due to lack of disk space. I went to
Add/Remove Programs and uninstalled some extras(Real Player, a photo
suite, etc.). When I restarted the computer, I got the endless reboot
cycle of woe. I did some checking and found the MKB Article 825065. I
tried the Recovery Console fix, but the $ntservicepackuninstall$\spuninst
does not exist. I tried to repair the Windows 2000 install with the
upgrade disk. This starts well, but then it looks for files on the disk
that are not there. The install wizard looks for NT5INF.CAT etc., but the
files on the CD are NT5INF.CA_.
Is there anything that I am missing? Is there anything I can do short of
human sacrifice?
TIA
