Installing Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 via Windows
Update and receive error: Unable to connect to metabase.
Failed to remove ism.dll script mapping.

Had to allow the uninstall of SP4.

Help.

Thank you

Hi Eric

Try this:

- Try again: completely disable *all* Antivirus Applications you are running
*before* you start the SP4 Install...

- Try to install SP4 in Safe Mode

If this still does not work, do this:

- Before attempting to install SP4, please stop all Antivirus Sofware.
- Do as well stop IISadmin and W3SVC before attempting to install.
- To make it short:^Stop ANY and ALL services related to IIS. If possible,
stop all other
non-essential Services too.

Have a look at this MS KB-Article as well:

- "INFO: ScriptMaps Error May Occur When You Install Windows 2000 SP4":

Hope this helps. Regards,

Hi Simon

This depends: If you chose to use the 'Express Installaton', you will have
to re-download the Files.
However, if you downloaded the Network Install, you will not need to
re-download all the Files again. In that case, just start the downloaded
Network Installation.

If you had not downloaded the Network Installation of SP4, then I suggest
that you do it now:

Go here to download it:
http://www.microsoft.com/Windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/download.asp

Direct Download Link:

If you don't want to download anything then you can order SP4 on CD.
Shipping+Handling costs apply. To order go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/ordercd.asp.

or:
Order the CD by Phone or Fax
Call (800) 360-7561
Fax (716) 447-7330

a.. Request part number C11-03228 for SP4 English
b.. Request part number C11-03229 for SP4 French

Using a Download Manager will allow you to interrupt/resume when you like.

Some Shareware Download Managers are:

GetRight: http://www.getright.com

FlashGet: http://www.flashget.com/

and many more...

NOTE: Always backup your system *before* installing and please choose to
archive the files during Setup as this will allow you to roll back the SP
Installation in the unlikely case that problems would occur.

NOTE 2: Installing SP4 will not install Security Update MS03-026, which
protects against vulnerabilities associated with the Blaster worm. If you
have not installed this security update, make sure you install it from this
page before or after installing SP4:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp

Direct Link to the Patch Download:

To learn everything about the MS Blaster Worm and how to protect yourself
best, go to: http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

Final NOTE: Please do visit Windows Update too after the Security Patch and
the SP4 install to check if you have to install more critical updates, such
as the new Security Patch for Internet Explorer.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
