When I try to install SP4, it aborts with the following 3
error messages:

Unable to log event.

Unable to connect to metabase.

Setup failed to remove ism.dll script mappings.
Service Pack Setup will abort.

I then reinstall SP3, apparently successfully, at least
things seem to be back to the way they were.

This happened identically in 3 attempts. However, when I
looked at the "Installation History," it shows all 3
attempts but gives the status as successful!

Anybody else having similar problems?
Can someone explain the significance of these error
messages?
What is a metabase?

Do you have IIS running?
I also am getting these messages, and then some -
including 'Failed to execute regsvr32.exe'. Then setup
fails and gives me the option to 'undo changes' - which I
do.
The majority of our servers are webservers running IIS. It
appears that SP4 is having an issue with IIS???? I used
the downloaded network version (which I downloaded a
couple of times to make sure it hadn't corrupted somehow).
I installed (I always chose to archive - Thankfully) on 2
different test servers.
I have tried to contact Microsoft about this, but keep
getting routed to the sites where I can either provide
feedback on their website, pay for support (why should I
pay to tell them about a possible problem with their
product?) or am routed to their Microsoft Wish list site -
What? I wish SP4 would work properly on our servers?
I am not sure what the problem is, but it is not going on
our production servers anytime soon.
If you find out what is going on, could you let me know?
And if I find out, I will repost to your message.
