SP4 GPO install, but Windows Update still says...

Following the article "MS Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Installation and
Deployment Guide", I've successfully installed SP4 using a Software
Package assignment via GPO on 10 test machines. After two reboots
(perhaps didn't require 2, but I wanted to be sure), the Add/Remove
Programs shows multiple SP4 Hotfixes (see below for a list), as well
as some "Pre-SP4" Hotfixes. However, System Properties window still
shows SP3, and going to Windows Update, SP4 is still on the list to be
installed.

Can anyone confirm that this is the appropriate result and that
whatever was needed from SP4 was indeed installed, or are my machines
not getting the complete SP4?

I would wonder too. My system properties shows SP4 on the version line.
I've seen posts that indicate that their pre SP4 hotfixes did not disappear
from Add/Remove programs (which mine did). I'm starting to wonder if those
installs of SP4 actually completed fully.

I'm trying to figure out why my system properties does
not display
"Service
Pack 4" after I've installed from installation files with sp4 integrated.
Instead it does not mention any service pack in the system properties. Not
sure if that means that I don't have sp4 or if it just didn't update the
system properties info.

.
Just a thought: can you go to a command prompt and
enter "winver"? What does that give you?

Also, take a look at GPOTOOL.

PS: I have yet to install SP4 in a lab environment. I
will eventually get to it...

Do you have any events in Event Viewer regarding the installation of
SP4, or the failure thereof? I came across this last week when one
machine seemed to auto update to SP4, but it still listed itselft as
SP3. Closer inspection showed the machine's C: drive had insufficient
space for the large install and backup routine, and after seeming to
update during boot, it aborted the install without notice. There was
an event, though, stating the the C: drive was nearly full; delete
some files. That was it. 280mb's free was not enough for the install.

Good suggestion, but no, no errors in the logs. The only log that
refers to a GPO was a successful ("Information") entry: "Security
policy in the Group policy objects are applied successfully". If this
is referring to the GPO I made for SP4, it's lying. Winver still says
SP3. Thanks for the input though.
