I have attempted to install the SP4 Express EN three times
now without any success. When I double click on this
install program, I choose the option to backup, in the
event that I may want to uninstall SP4 in the future
(probably won't but it is nice to have this option). The
program then goes through the check of system files. Then
when it attempts to install SP4 from the URL:
http://W2KSP4.microsoft.com/isapi/pstream3.dll/win2000/SP4.
en - it gives me an error message telling me that it is
unable to connect to this server to download, please click
on Retry. I then hit retry, and get the same error. I
check to ensure that I am still connected to the internet
(I am). I then hit retry again, it says something to the
effect "if the problem persists after hitting retry visit
the SP4 page on Windows and view the list of existing
installation problems." After visiting SP4 page on windows
I am unable to find such a problems list. So instead I
visit the Newsgroup for Windows. I have reviewed all the
problems listed in Windows Update and now I am here. I am
unable to find anyone that has experienced the same
problem nor reported it. I attempt to connect to the URL
manually:
http://W2KSP4.microsoft.com/isapi/pstream3.dll/win2000/SP4
and get a page that says it doesn't exist. However, if
this is the URL the program is trying to redirect or
access during the install then is this a problem with the
installation program? Is there a fix? What else can I
try to install this program? Is it because I am using a
56K DialUp modem to do the installation? Is it because AOL
is my IP? or a combination of other related or inter-
related reasons? Is it because Microsoft ASSUMED that the
entire world uses only broadband to connect to the
internet? Should I purchase the service pac instead? Is
there a URL I can go to or FTP location, to download the
full install, instead of relying on the express install -
to properly access a number of URLs where the SP4.en
installation program is SUPPOSE to be located? Any
suggestions or comments are much appreciated?
