I installed SP4 on my Windows 2000 Pro SP3 workstation. I got some errors
during the install (didn't write them down). Something about the IIS
services. It gave me the option to continue the install, so I did and it
completed. The system boots ok and everything seems to run. The problem I am
having is when my system is idle and my screen saver kicks off. When I press
CTRL-ALT-DEL to log back in to the workstation, it blue screens and reboots.
Nothing is logged in the event log and it happens so fast, I can't see what
the error is. I have uninstalled SP4 and went back to SP3 and everything is
fine. What could be causing the issue?

How did you uninstall SP4? It is not in my add/remove
programs.
If you failed to choose the option to backup your old files when you
downloaded and installed SP4, there won't be any uninstall option for SP4,
and it isn't possible (the old versions of the files aren't anywhere to be
restored). Just a guess, but this is the most likely case.

I just reinstalled SP4 and got all the way through without an error. My
original post said I got an IIS error. It was due to the default web site
was stopped in the mmc. I am still having the same problem though when I go
to login after my screen saver kicks on. I tried many different screen
savers, but the problem persists. This time it logged the following in the
system log:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001e
(0xc0000005, 0xbfe93d16, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000
[v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini071203-02.dmp.

When I look at the dump file, it is nothing I can understand. How can I fix
this problem caused by SP4? I ended up removing SP4 again and going back to
SP3.
